Algaida is a municipality located in the centre of Mallorca, comprising three separate villages: Algaida, Pina and Randa.

It has Arabic roots (words beginning with ‘Al’ usually indicate an Arabic origin in Spain) and was founded in the early 13th century. The landscape is dominated by the Puig de Randa plateau, a rocky outcrop offering spectacular views, where the ‘blessing of the fruit’ is traditionally held on the fourth Sunday after Easter.

Among the most important places to visit in Algaida are three monasteries built on different levels of the rocky plateau: the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Grace, dating from the 15th century; the Sanctuary of Saint Honorat, whose origins date back to the 14th century; and the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Cura, which is closely associated with Ramon Lull, a Franciscan tertiary (writer, poet, mathematician and theologian) and recognised as the first major author in the Catalan language. The town of Algaida is also home to the island’s oldest glassblowing company, Gordiola, a family-run factory that can be visited today, where everything from glass lamps to tableware is produced using traditional techniques.

Algaida’s bars, restaurants, gourmet shops and wine cellars are housed in some of its finest buildings; food is an important part of the local culture and is well worth exploring in all its forms. Below, we highlight some of the key attractions near the estate.

4 Vents Restaurant specialises in meat and fresh fish dishes with a contemporary twist, and is located in the bar of the old Algaida railway station.

S’Hostal de Can Mateu Restaurant; attached to a working farm, the menu features dishes made from the farm’s own livestock and produce. Traditional recipes served in a rustic setting.

Forn de Can Salem; tucked away in the streets of Algaida, where everything is free from preservatives and additives. Must-try items here include fish pies, butter croissants, and cremadillos, as well as white chocolate and walnut salad.

Vins Can Mayoral Winery; a recently established family-run winery that uses state-of-the-art technology to produce high-quality wines. Its red and white wines are part of the Pla i Llevant appellation in Mallorca.

Es Repic Bar and Restaurant; with its sunny terrace and old-world charm, the bar and restaurant is situated right in the centre of the village of Algaida.

Santuari de Cura Restaurant and Café; a fine-dining restaurant and café serving traditional island cuisine in a unique historic setting – the refectory and library of a convent – with stunning views.

Finca Serena: The perfect base

Finca Serena offers a chance to live in a rural setting that captures the unique charms of Mallorca: breezes scented with fresh lemons, aromatic plants, olive oil and meadows.

The Jacaranda Restaurant serves produce grown in the vegetable gardens of the estate’s 20-hectare grounds, ensuring healthy food in an authentic setting. Whether dining indoors or al fresco, visitors can savour the flavours of Mallorca with dishes inspired by traditional cuisine, given a modern twist by our local chef.
