Art galleries in Madrid you shouldn’t miss

The Elvira González Gallery in Madrid specialises in European and American art from the 1950s onwards, as well as contemporary art. Its galleries have hosted major artists such as Rothko, Picasso and Robert Mapplethorpe, amongst others.

Since its opening in 1990, the Elba Benítez Gallery in Madrid has been a leading figure in promoting art in various forms, such as sculpture, photography, installations and performance art. It also explores other avenues of artistic expression where art intersects with disciplines such as architecture, film, tourism and urban planning.

With branches in Barcelona, New York and London, the Marlborough Gallery in Madrid represents the work of over 20 highly acclaimed Spanish artists. At the same time, it is committed to promoting the careers of emerging artists on a global scale.

Since it opened in 1991, the Guillermo de Osma Gallery in Madrid has organised over 100 exhibitions dedicated to modern and contemporary art. It tends to focus on the historical European and Latin American avant-garde.

Opened in 2017, La Causa Galería has become a hub for emerging artists, with a particular focus on young contemporary painters.

La Cometa gallery in Madrid opened its doors in 2019 with an exhibition featuring five Colombian artists, with the aim of showcasing projects by Latin American artists. Its programme now also includes exhibitions by contemporary Spanish artists.

Since its inception, this gallery has been committed to supporting young artists from around the world through top-quality contemporary art exhibitions. Its exhibitions focus on minimalism, geometry and conceptual art.

Located next to the Reina Sofía Museum in the Lavapiés district, the gallery showcases the best of international contemporary art, with a particular focus on photography, video and installation art. It is one of Spain’s most renowned galleries.

With the aim of bringing art closer to society as a means of reflection, the Gärna Art Gallery brings together both emerging and established artists from Spain and around the world in a wide-ranging programme of exhibitions.
