The Prado Museum is one of the world’s most important art galleries, with a collection of European art spanning from the 12th to the 20th century.
A visit is almost a must for anyone with even a passing interest in art and culture. Only a small fraction of the collection’s artworks are on display, but the sheer size of the building can be daunting, so it is advisable to decide in advance which specific works you are interested in. The breadth of the collection bears witness to the legacy of the Habsburg and Bourbon dynasties, which have ruled Spain from Charles I (1516) to the present day.
