CaixaForum Madrid

The Caixa Forum cultural centre situated opposite the Prado Museum was designed by the renowned Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron, a gravity defying refurbishment of a former industrial building that now accommodates temporary exhibitions managed by Obra Social “la Caixa” affiliated with CaixaBank, one of Spain’s most important banks.

The CaixaForum cultural centre, located opposite the Prado Museum, was designed by the renowned Swiss architects Herzog & De Meuron. The building is a former industrial site that has been transformed into a venue for temporary exhibitions organised by Obra Social “la Caixa”, an affiliate of CaixaBank, one of Spain’s leading banks.

The ground floor is almost entirely raised off the ground, with only a staircase leading to the upper floors, which house the exhibition space and the café. Opened in 2008, the building itself is as much a reason to visit as its exhibitions: its scale, materials and details reveal an architectural practice at the height of its talent. Admission is free for CaixaBank customers.
