Housed in this building in Arenal, right next to Plaza del Sol, since 1981, Joy Eslava takes its name from the Teatro Eslava that used to stand on this site.

During that decade, it became one of the favourite haunts of Madrid’s ‘Movida’ scene – a group of artists including film director Almodóvar and pop star Alaska, who shaped the city’s vibrant cultural atmosphere following the advent of democracy. With live performances, parties and social events, the club is a vital part of Madrid’s nightlife. However, it is worth bearing in mind that Spanish social life has its own rhythm; although it opens at midnight, nobody arrives here until after 2 am.
