Its origins date back to 1776, the year in which Rafael Castañer, its founder, was born. The Castañer brand is renowned today for its espadrilles, a type of casual and very comfortable footwear with a sole made of esparto grass and an upper usually made of canvas or cotton fabric.
In the 1970s, at the request of Yves Saint Laurent, Castañer added a wedge heel to the classic espadrille, reinventing it and turning the wedge espadrille into a fashion staple in every wardrobe. The shop on Claudio Coello, just a stone’s throw from Único, also sells other types of fashionable footwear for men and women, bags, hats, scarves and other accessories.
